exercise ten:
Coming Home
There are no permanent vacations, only brief islands in time which present
themselves as opportunities to nourish and refresh yourself. Soon it will
be time to go home, and you will return to the demands of your daily life
and routine.
Consider what memories and relaxation experiences you can take back
with you. You’ve probably found it easy enough to set aside time to do the
things of importance to you, time to do the shopping, attend a business
meeting or a birthday gathering. But taking alone time has perhaps been
more challenging.
As you open your suitcase to unpack your belongings look around, and
consider how you can keep this place of centre, this island like quality
within yourself to draw on in times of stress. Take a deep breath and
observe the beauty surrounding you. Direct your view towards something
you find beautiful, a favourite photo perhaps, and spend a few moments
appreciating what it’s been like to be here. Notice the many colors, textures
and smells of the holiday as you unpack.
Even ten minutes a day focusing on the stillness you achieved while away
will keep the benefits of the holiday with you for longer.
